Charges and tickets

Charges, tickets and your license

Bishnu Thapa defends people charged with misdemeanors, DUI and traffic offenses, in English or Nepali. We don’t take felony cases; we’ll refer you to a lawyer who does.

  • DUI

From the first court date through any hearing about your license.

  • Misdemeanors

Shoplifting, disorderly conduct, a first drug charge and other lesser charges.

  • Traffic and license

Speeding, driving on a suspended license, and points that threaten your insurance.

  • Clearing a record

Sealing or expunging an old charge, when the law allows it.

From the first call to the courtroom

  1. 01

Step 1: We call you back

Tell the front desk your court date so the right file goes to the top.

  2. 02

Step 2: We read the paperwork

The citation, the police report and anything the court has sent you.

  3. 03

Step 3: We lay out your options

What a plea would mean, what a hearing would mean, and what each would cost.

  4. 04

Step 4: We go to court with you

You’ll know what to say, and what not to, before you walk in.

Questions about charges

Will I lose my license?

It depends on the charge and your record. Bishnu will tell you what’s at stake at the first meeting, and what can be done about it.

My court date is next week. Is that too late?

No, but call today. There’s more we can do with more time.

Can you explain things to my family in Nepali?

Yes. Bishnu speaks Nepali and Hindi, and can walk anyone you want in the room through each step.
