Small business

Paperwork for shops, studios and crews

Birgit Haskell works with owners of small companies, from a one-person studio to a crew of thirty.

  • Starting the company

Choosing the form, writing the operating agreement and filing with the state.

  • Leases and contracts

Reading the storefront lease before you sign, and writing contracts with customers and suppliers.

  • Partners and owners

Who decides, who gets paid, and what happens when someone wants out.

  • Buying or selling a business

The letter of intent, the purchase agreement and the closing, with your accountant kept in the loop.

An hour now beats a lawsuit later

Most of Birgit’s work happens before anything goes wrong: a lease read closely, a contract with the payment terms spelled out, an agreement between partners while they still like each other.

For set pieces of work she can quote a flat fee in writing, so you know the cost before she starts.

What owners ask Birgit

Do I need an LLC?

Not always. It depends on the risks in your work and how many owners there are. We’ll walk through it at the first meeting.

Can you look over a lease someone already sent me?

Yes. Send it before you sign, and Birgit will mark what to ask the landlord to change.

Do you take lawsuits between businesses?

Small disputes, often settled by letter. If a case needs a trial lawyer, we’ll refer you to one.
